July 16, 2008 was Box Butte Development Corporation’s first annual Welcome Reception. BBDC would like to thank all those who attended. Shannon Garwood from the Heritage Days Committee spoke on the events taking place and history of Heritage Days. John Olafson, Executive Director of BBDC, commented briefly on BBDC's goals and purpose of welcoming new people into Alliance. Also in attendance was Dixie Nelson from the Alliance Chamber of Commerce, Mark Anderson with Nebraska Workforce Development, Claudia Olafson with Box Butte General Hospital, Marge Thompson with Great Plains Welcoming Service, and Rita Fortner with BBDC. Participants and guests sat around tables enjoying refreshments and discussing their stories, and how they became residents of Alliance, Nebraska.
Box Butte Development Corporation offers a relocation program to people relocating to the Alliance area. BBDC encourages business owners and managers to direct their new, relocating personnel to the BBDC office for services designed to make the transition to the area smoother and more successful. Future plans of different social events to welcome new residents to Alliance are being discussed. BBDC would like to hold a few events per year possibly incorporating a movie night or the Parade of Lights. Anyone interested in participating or helping plan in these events in the future, please contact BBDC office.
